Acrylic Herbst
Originally the Acrylic Herbst® Splint was bonded to both arches to ensure patient cooperation, but the lower bonded appliance proved difficult to manage clinically. Today, most clinicians using the Acrylic Herbst® use a removable splint on the lower arch and a bonded or removable appliance on the upper arch. Because the Herbst® mechanism attaches the upper and lower components and is comfortable for the patient only when the lower splint is in place, successful treatment is assured.
