The 5.5mm hex screws are designed to reduce tissue irritation that some patients experience. The screws are also available on custom appliances.

Traditional Herbst® Hex Screws
The original Herbst® Appliance is used with hex head screws as shown. These screws seat into the Herbst® pivots and are tightened with a small Allen wrench. Traditional hex head screws are typically secured with Ceka Bond for additional strength. These nuts have a standard 1/72" thread that is used with all Specialty Herbst® Appliances.

Traditional Herbst® Shoulder Screws
Shoulder Screws are designed to have a larger pivot base. This generally allows a patient with a narrow upper arch to function properly with the Herbst tubes and pistons. The screws have a slotted head.
