Packaging Models

Specialty Appliances will supply packaging and shipping materials to you at no cost. To request supplies, please call customer service at 1-800-LAB INFO (1-800-522-4636) or click here and complete the supply request form. To avoid any delays in processing your case, please follow the packaging instructions on this page.

If you prefer to send impressions, we can pour models for you in the lab. We recommend that you use Algimax or Kromopan® 100 impression material as it does not require impressions to be wrapped in wet paper towels or additional water to be added to the bag.


Steps to Sending Impressions Using Algimax or Kromopan® 100 Impressions


  • Disinfect the impressions and place in a plastic bag.
    • We recommend a hospital grade disinfectant such as CaviCide™.
  • Identify the impressions.
    • Use a permanent marker to write the patient's and doctor's name on the bag.
  • Disinfect all other items and place in a separate plastic bag
    • This includes wax bites, bands and crowns.
    • Include the patient's and doctor's name on the bag.
    • Do not include the Rx sheet in the bag with the impressions or other disinfected items.
  • Fold the Rx sheet and place in the shipping box.



Steps to Sending Standard Alginate Impressions


  • Disinfect the impressions.
    • We recommend a hospital grade disinfectant such as CaviCide™.
    • Wrap in wet paper towels and place in a sealable plastic bag.
    • Add two (2) tablespoons of water to each plastic bag containing an impression.
  • Identify the impressions.
    • Use a permanent marker to write the patient's and doctor's name on the bag.
  • Place the bag in a separate, sealable bag before sending to the laboratory.
    • This double bagging process ensures that the alginate maintains its maximum accuracy.
  • Disinfect all other items and place in a separate plastic bag
    • This includes wax bites, bands and crowns.
    • Include the patient's and doctor's name on the bag.
    • Do not include the Rx sheet in the bag with the impressions or other disinfected items.
  • Fold the Rx sheet and place in the shipping box.



Steps to Sending Plaster or Stone Models


  • Disinfect the models.
    • We recommend a hospital grade disinfectant such as CaviCide™.
  • Identify the models.
    • Use a permanent marker to write the patient's and doctor's name on the bottom of each model.
  • Wrap each model in bubble wrap to prevent shipping damage.
    • Place each model in the center of the bubble wrap.
    • Fold corners over the occlusal surfaces and then roll the model in the bubble wrap.
    • Make sure all surfaces of the model are protected by two (2) layers of bubble wrap.
  • Secure bubble wrap around each model with a rubber band.
    • Please DO NOT wrap models together.
  • Disinfect all other items and place in a separate plastic bag
    • This includes wax bites, bands and crowns.
    • Include the patient's and doctor's name on the bag.
    • Do not include the Rx sheet in the bag with the impressions or other disinfected items.
  • Fold the Rx sheet and place in the shipping box.
